Canada first · global charter open for signatures seeking MP for e-###

Privacy is a birthright — not a product feature

Stand up for digital rights in Canada

Mass surveillance, opaque algorithms, and surveillance advertising are rewriting power over ordinary life — jobs, credit, speech, and private spaces. SherpaCarta is a living Digital Magna Carta: 114 articles Canadians can organize around. This hub turns that charter into a visible public mandate — and, with an MP, an official House of Commons e-petition.

The promise

Every campaign commitment, paper sheet, and public post builds the case that Canadians want privacy by design, data sovereignty, and algorithmic accountability. We never fake Parliamentary numbers. We build real pressure — then convert it into official process when a Member of Parliament sponsors us. Your name (or pseudonym) is not sold, not tracked for ads, and not quietly mixed into an e-petition total that doesn’t exist yet.

If we stay quiet

Default becomes surveillance

If we show up

Mandate becomes leverage

Privacy is a birthright

Limits on mass and commercial surveillance, meaningful consent, and a practical right to erasure are civil liberties — not niche tech hobbyhorses.

Algorithms decide lives

Hiring, credit, content, and policing increasingly run on automated scores. You deserve plain-language explanation and non-discrimination.

Numbers move MPs

Campaign volume and paper sheets prove demand. Official e-petitions need that signal — and one MP willing to authorize e-###.

Honest language: Campaign totals on this site are not House of Commons signatures. They build the movement and help us win an MP. When an official e-### is live, we deep-link it from the official path and this hub.

Quick answers

Is signing here the same as a House of Commons petition?

No — and we say so clearly. Campaign signs build mandate. Official e-signatures only count on petitions.ourcommons.ca after an MP publishes an e-###. Paper sheets are a separate legal path an MP can present.

Why participate before e-### is live?

MPs authorize petitions when they see demand. Campaign volume, paper ink, and public conversation are the argument. Waiting for Parliament first is how issues stay invisible.

Do you need my government ID or phone?

Not for the campaign. Campaign form: name or pseudonym, province, citizen/resident attestation. Official e-petitions (on Parliament’s site) use email confirmation — still no ID upload.

What happens if we get an official e-petition?

At 500+ validated signatures it can be presented in the House; the government must respond within 45 days after presentation. That is formal leverage — which is why we treat the path carefully and honestly.

Where can I read the full legal model?

See CANADA-PETITION-LEGAL.md and the journey notes in CANADA-JOURNEY.md. Not legal advice.
