House of Commons · e-petition path

Make it count in Parliament

Campaign signs and paper sheets build the movement. An official e-petition is how that mandate lands on the House of Commons agenda — with a government response required after presentation. We are building toward a live e-###. You can help open that door — today.

Why this matters: Once an MP authorizes a petition and it reaches the threshold, it is presented in the House and the government must respond. That is real leverage. Until then, every campaign commitment and paper sheet proves Canadians want digital rights modernization — privacy, data sovereignty, and algorithmic accountability. We do not invent e-### numbers. We prepare the tools, build the case, and ask.

What “winning” e-### looks like

What “official” means

Only signatures on petitions.ourcommons.ca after e-### is published count for Parliament. Our site campaign is separate and honest about that.

What we need from you

Sign the campaign, collect paper, talk publicly, and help identify MPs open to authorizing a petition on digital privacy and algorithmic rights.

The path to e-###

1

Build mandate

Campaign signs + federal paper sheets. Public discussion on X (#Sherpacarta) and Nostr. This is where we are strongest today.

2

Create & certify the draft

Account on petitions.ourcommons.ca · paste federal prayer (≤250 words, no URLs) · 5 supporters confirm by email · Clerk review.

3

MP authorizes

A Member of Parliament must accept the invitation. That unlocks a public e-### on Parliament’s site. MPs have a limited window to respond; multiple attempts are allowed.

4

500+ validated signatures

Email confirmation on ourcommons.ca. At threshold, petition can be presented; government responds within 45 days after presentation.

Find your MP

Use Parliament’s directory, then send the outreach draft (or your own). Mention campaign volume, paper sheets, and the charter as a reference framework — not as already-passed law. Authorizing publication does not require the MP to endorse every sentence; it lets Canadians sign on Parliament’s system.

Quick answers

Can SherpaCarta host the official signatures?

No. By design and by law of the process, official e-signatures only exist on Parliament’s website after e-### is published. We deep-link when live. Anything else would be dishonest.

Does asking my MP to authorize mean they support every article?

No. Authorization allows Canadians to sign on the official system. Our outreach draft says so. The charter is a reference framework, not enacted law.

What should I do if I’m not an “organizer”?

Sign the campaign, print or share a paper sheet, post the press line, and email your own MP. One polite constituent ask is a real contribution.

While we seek an MP — do not wait

Campaign volume and paper are the argument. Public conversation keeps the issue warm. The hub is the front door; this page is the Parliament path. Use both.
